January Meeting - Stress and Anxiety in Parenting

January 28th 6:30 pm to 9 pm

St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church

606 W 15th St, Austin, Texas 78701

Worrying seems to come with the territory with kids. Even before you are pregnant you worry about how you will afford them, what kind of parent will you be, and will your partner chnage diapers. Then you are expecting and you worry about their well being- twin to twin transfusion, prematurity- and yours- will you need a c-section, will you ever have a normal belly button again, how will you stuff your swollen feet into your shoes. Once they're born it continues- did they eat enough, did they poop enough, why aren't they sleeping, why are they sleeping so much, how will they ever go to college if you still swaddle them at 3 months. The list goes on and on- what about kindergarten, should we separate them or keep them together, will they have friends outside of each other, will they tem up and bully all their classmates.

But when does worry turn into anxiety and what can we do to ease the stress and worry that happens as parents? Austin Anxiety and OCD Specialists are sending us Dr Erika Vivyan to come help with all these questions and more.

Dr. Erika Vivyan is a licensed psychologist at Austin Anxiety and OCD Specialists. She earned her PhD from The University of Wisconsin and has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy, parent management training, and parent-child interaction therapy. Dr. Vivyan specializes in working with children, adolescents, and parents. She is dedicated to using evidence-based treatment interventions and strives to use an ecological, developmental, and culturally sensitive approach in her work with clients.

A pasta bar dinner will be served with gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options available. Please RSVP at your soonest convenience so we can arrange for enough.
